JL Mann Staff 2019-2020

The JL Mann Band Boosters, along with the Administration of JL Mann High School, are excited to announce that Mr. Kam JaCoby has accepted the position of Band Director for the 2022-2023 school year!

Kam JaCoby is a percussionist and music educator from Columbia, South Carolina. He received his Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education from Furman University. During his time at Furman, he performed with multiple ensembles and taught locally in the Greenville area. Currently, Mr. JaCoby is in Boise, ID working towards his Master’s in Educational Technology. He also currently works as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for Boise State University’s Blue Thunder Marching Band.

This summer, before getting started with band camp, Mr. JaCoby will fly to Antigua and Barbuda in the Caribbean to complete a Guest Artist Teaching Residency for the Antigua and Barbuda Youth Symphony Orchestra.

He is very excited about coming back to South Carolina to serve as the Band Director at J.L. Mann High School. Mr. JaCoby says, "I genuinely loved working with J.L. Mann as the percussion director and am excited about what’s in store for the program. I know the parents and community are very supportive and I’m looking forward to being a part of the Mann Band Family."

Please join us in welcoming Mr. JaCoby back to JL Mann in his new official capacity as Band Director at a Meet the Teacher on Tuesday, May 17th from 4:30 - 5:30 pm in the JL Mann Media Center.

David Keller has been the Band Director at J.L. Mann High Academy since 2011. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Music Degree from Furman University in 2011, and a Master’s of Arts Degree in Band Conducting from Sam Houston State University in 2017. Before college, Mr. Keller was a member of the Wando High School Band program from 2003 through 2007.

Since taking the position at J.L. Mann, Mr. Keller has grown the size and quality of the program. J.L. Mann High has earned Excellent and Superior Ratings across state SCBDA events. The students in the J.L. Mann Band program regularly audition and are awarded seats in the Greenville County, South Carolina Region, and South Carolina All-State Honor Bands. During the 2015-2016 year, the J.L. Mann Band was awarded their first SCBDA Outstanding Performance Award in school history.

David Keller is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the National Association for Music Education, the South Carolina Band Directors Association, and currently serves as the Greenville Site Chairman for SCBDA Concert Band Performance Assessment.
